YUCK.
It's too thick, stringing with wire was a disaster...it's horrible.
I was whining about it and Matt asked if I wanted him to make me a harp...I told him to be careful what he offered, that I may take him up on it.

Save yourself the frustration (and anxiety!) and let Matthew give it a try - if his version doesn't suit you, maybe you could just pick another instrument.
You could try carving a balsa wood harp first, but your hands have already taken quite a beating on this one.
You don't sound like you're having much fun with this part of the project, so gift your sweetie with the challenge!
