I didn't do any work on the house this weekend.
Saturday I spent most of the day at the office. Sunday I cleaned my studio and went shopping with Kate. Apparently she won an academic merit accomplishment scholarship from the local college...I was told it's considered quite a big deal but we don't have the details yet. We shouldn't know anything yet, but the school secretary told her in advance to make sure she attends the honors convocation in June, which is held the week before graduation, because she usually doesn't attend such ceremonies. She has to wear special...oh, I don't know, cords or a sash or something, and there's going to be a special presentation....like I said, I don't have any details. I decided she needs a pretty new dress to wear as well. We found a gorgeous sundress at Macy's today. I'll post pictures after the ceremony.
I spent the rest of the weekend playing with the cat and reading a travel book...it's now one month until we leave for a week in Paris. I'm determined to learn at least the basic courtesy phrases in French before we leave. I realize that everyone in Paris is going to know we're tourists, but I'd rather not come across as some dumb, rude American douche bag.
Go Kate!!
Seriously, that young lady is just amazing - what does she want to major in?
I was wondering how long until you are off to Paris. I think you would have to be trying to come off as a douche for anyone to see you that way, and the professor that John hosted said that a few phrases of French are very appreciated, and will have them seeing you in a good light.
Hopefully, the volcanic ash won't affect your flight - have you checked into an alternate route if it's a problem?
You're going with a school group, right?
The Aren'tist of the Day was a good pick, but I do like this piece of hers:

Bonjour.
I laughed at "ew...wash your hands!" too.
I'm tired when I get home from a half hour walk with the dog every day. I can't imagine how you're going to survive walking around Paris all day for a week.

I took two years of French in high school and can still sing their national anthem - it's a Schoolhouse Rock kind of way that things get stuck in my head if I sing them - and I remember a few phrases like "what is your name?' and what my name is - you can watch Eddie Izzard dvds in French, after watching the originals, and they're a hoot!
Bring me something!
A huge old mirrored-front French armoire would be nice...
