I cut all the pieces early in the morning, before Kate the night shift RN/daytime sleeper got home from work.  All except the trim came from my scrap bin.

Then I spent a couple of days sanding, staining, gluing, clamping, sanding and painting.

The legs are all wrong on my mid-century modern inspired antique dresser, but the window is only two feet from the floor, so I either had to have stubby feet or one drawer.  In retrospect, I should have made the top drawer two clapboards high and the bottom three so that I could have short but proper looking legs.  I'm not re-making another, though, unless I finish the build well before the deadline.

Stubby feet again, on the tall dresser, but they had to match.  The built-in closet has an open back, it is a box to hide wiring; the mirror on the front will make sense later, when I'm further along in the build.

I don't like the bookcase/desk placement.  I didn't want to butt the desk up against the window because I thought that would look odd, but having half the bookcase hidden behind its legs looks odder.  My original plan was to build the desk and bookcase as one unit, with the bookcase being the legs on that side, but then the surface of the desk was too low and I couldn't fit the arms of the chair underneath.  Now though, even though the desk is the right height to be in scale, it looks off because the rest of the furniture in the loft was made shorter than scale.  I'm going to redesign and remake this little office corner, it just doesn't work.

When you look at the piece as a whole it looks unbalanced....lots of wood tones in the loft and none below.  However, there is a large wood element still to come downstairs.  The headboard is enough of a statement on its own that I only have to accessorize in my color scheme to bring the loft back into play.   Also, the nightstands aren't in place yet, they received several coats of white enamel paint and are still drying.  You know, though, when I remake the office corner I'm going to paint it all black, the wood tone of the desk isn't working for me either.
